Dr. William Arthur Atkinson Boyd, DVM (78), of Ellicott City, MD, passed away on April 28, 2023, at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia, MD. He was born January 28, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Boyd graduated from City College High School in Baltimore, MD in 1963, University of Maryland in 1967, and University of Georgia veterinary school in 1970. He was an Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America.
On March 19, 1971, Dr. Boyd married Susan Tracy in Timonium, Maryland. They enjoyed 51 years of close and loving partnership with plenty of laughter, adventures, and friendly competitions.
Dr. Boyd was an owner and co-owner of the Pulaski Veterinary Clinic for 34 years, specializing in exotic and avian animals, as well as small animals. He also served as a backup veterinarian for both the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and, after retiring, lived in Rwanda for 6 years, where he volunteered with the Crowned Cranes Project with the Rwandan Wildlife Conservation Association. He delighted in filling his home and his life with orphaned, crippled, or otherwise odd animals which he nursed back to health with skill, dedication, and compassion.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Boyd; his son Stephen Boyd, daughter Jessica Boyd; grandchildren Elizabeth Boyd and Alexis Boyd; brothers Geoffrey Boyd and Lawrence Boyd, and sister Barbara Dudley; and close family friends Josie and Mike Mukobwajana.
Dr. Boyd also is survived by his nephews and nieces: Kim Novshadian, David Boyd, Robert Boyd, Christopher Boyd, and George Dudley.
A memorial service will be held in William's honor on Saturday May 13, 2023, at 11:00am, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Lane, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042.
