Annapolis

William Spear “Bill” Biggs, 87, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on January 22, 2025, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Bill was born on June 8, 1937 to John R. Biggs Sr. and Cora S. Biggs in Baltimore, Maryland. He is preceded in death by his parents, his dear wife Jane, with whom he enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage prior to her passing in May 2024, and grandson-in-law Kyle Hofstetter, who passed in August 2024.

Bill was raised on a farm in Jessup, Maryland, and graduated from Arundel High School in 1955. He initially worked as an editor for an Army newspaper in Fort Meade, Maryland, and then accepted a similar position with the Social Security Administration, where he managed a team of writers. Bill retired in 1992, with 37 years of government service.

He and Jane enjoyed traveling the world, spending as many winters in Florida as possible, and babysitting their beautiful granddaughters. Bill loved his family and friends deeply, and that love was reciprocal. Dinner parties, bridge games, gardening, and enjoying the sunshine were some of Bill and Jane’s favorite activities. They made friends wherever they went, and most of those friendships lasted forever.

Bill is survived by his son, Rod Biggs, daughter-in-law Julie Biggs, granddaughters Allison Healey (Shane) and Katie Hofstetter, and great-granddaughters Cora and Ayla Healey, and Ella and Millie Hofstetter. He is also survived by his brother Jack Biggs (Jane), and sister Judy Clark, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s name to the Kyle Hofstetter ‘12 “Relentless” Lacrosse Scholarship fund at the Virginia Military Academy (VMI), Alumni Agencies, PO Box 932, Lexington, VA 24450. No formal services are planned.
