Thomas F Harvey, Jr.

November 8, 1933 — September 5, 2021

Thomas F Harvey, Jr , age 87, passed on 9/5/21 at Stella Maris. He was born in Boston 11/8/1933 to the late Thomas F and Marion McCarthy Harvey. He leaves no immediate family, but Marion Horigan his beloved late sister, was survived by her daughter-in-law Robin and her children Scott Horigan and Britany Horigan. Tom was best known as a Baltimore County English instructor. Many years were spent teaching at Hereford Sr and later Hereford Middle school; not far from the Monkton horse farm where he lived for years with his many horses and dogs. He was a many faceted man: a competitive figure skater; a Navy veteran; an equestrian; a supporter of Elkridge-Harford and Mt Carmel hunt clubs; a ski patrol member, a ski instructor, tennis instructor, & volunteer. Upon retirement, when he wasn’t spending summers in Maui, he volunteered at Stella Maris, Gilchrist, York Hospital and the School for the Blind where he taught students to swim and to ski – Tom would ski down the hill backwards while guiding a student. Gregarious and quick to make friends, he was known to regale everyone with his adventures, mainly centered on his mishaps. His anecdotes and tales often were embellished with each retelling. He leaves behind too many friends to list, but Mary Shaffer, Laura Riley, and Kelly Baxter were friends for decades and remained devoted to him. Tom often said, “I always eat my dessert first, so I know I’ll have room for it.” The next time you eat dessert, please pause a moment to remember this good friend and kind person. At Tom’s request there will be no service or viewing. A Mass will be held at a future date. For those who feel inclined to honor Tom’s memory, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice (heaven knows, most U.S. charities are still sending him donation requests) or eating a dessert of your choice.
