In Loving Memory of Theodore P. Blauvelt July 10, 1947 - September 17, 2023
Theodore P. Blauvelt, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed from this world on September 17, 2023, at the age of 76. Born in Suffern, NY, on July 10, 1947, Theodore spent his formative years in the Atlantic City, NJ area. He was the cherished son of Theodore T. Blauvelt and Patricia M. Bastedo.
Theodore was united in marriage to his loving wife, Phyllis Blauvelt, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his two children, Vanessa Blauvelt Snipes and Theodore P. Blauvelt Jr, and his dedicated son-in-law, Donte Snipes. His grandchildren, Dominic Snipes and Kyla Snipes, were the apples of his eye, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments.
Theodore was a loving brother to Debbie Smoljanovich, Rene Bastedo, Carleen Biglin, Hedy Brandenberger, Allison Blauvelt, Ed Muller, and Theodore (Dory) Bastedo. He was a cherished brother-in-law to Dave Biglin (Carleen), Andrew Brandenberger (Hedy), Donna Muller (Ed), and Linda Bastedo (Dory). He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Theodore served his country honorably as an Army veteran, with several tours in the Vietnam War, where he displayed incredible courage and dedication, earning several Purple Hearts and a Bronze Medal. After retiring from the Army, he continued his service to the community by working for the US Postal Service, first as a dedicated Mail Carrier, and later as a skilled Maintenance Mechanic, until his well-deserved retirement.
During his tenure with the USPS, Theodore was deeply involved in the American Postal Workers Union, advocating for the rights and well-being of his colleagues. His commitment to his coworkers and the community extended beyond his retirement. He found fulfillment in serving as an Election Judge and contributing to the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks. He also enjoyed working at Baltimore area racetracks during events like the Preakness and the State Fair, where he made countless friends.
Theodore's zest for life was evident in his active involvement at the Arbutus Senior Center, where he shared laughter and camaraderie with his peers. He found joy in supporting his beloved Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and Eagles, and he was a dedicated partial season ticket holder for the Philadelphia Phillies.
