Robert Newman

Robert Newman, age 96 of Westminster, passed away January 17, 2025, at Autum Lake Healthcare at Long View in Manchester of natural causes. Robert was born January 20, 1928, in Baltimore, Maryland to Irvin and Josephine Newman. He attended Georgia Tech briefly before he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and served during World War II.

He married Leona Gertude Martin and settled in Randallstown Maryland and raised five sons. He worked a large part of his career at Westinghouse Electric Company as a quality engineer.

After the passing of his wife Leona, he married Beatrice Catherine Ayers of Carroll County where they lived until Beatrice’s passing in November 2022. They enjoyed travelling, visiting family and attended Kirkridge Presbyterian church.

He was a proud member of the US Marine Corp League. His passion was flying and refurbishing aircraft. He flew private planes as a teenager and then again in his 40’s. He flew recreationally and refurbished aircraft for more than 20 years. A man with an amazing memory was gifted at sharing fascinating stories of his time during WW II, flying and his time working at Westinghouse Electric Co.

He was preceded in death by his son Keith at age 20 after a valiant lifelong struggle with Muscular Dystrophy. Robert is survived by his four sons and daughter-in-laws, Terry, Warren and Joann, Dave and Becky, Ronnie and Rhonda, six grandchildren Stephanie, Jason, Megan, Lisa, Jennifer and Kimberly and 8 great grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life to be held at Kirkridge Church in Westminster on Sunday April 27, 2025 beginning at 12:30 pm immediately followed by a lunch in the church’s fellowship hall. Please confirm arrangements on Kirkridge Church website http://www.kirkridgearp.com
