Robert D. McKinley Jr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “RD” McKinley, Jr., (10/29/1967 - 01/06/2025). He was a devoted husband, father, accomplished businessman, avid hunter and athlete. He loved a good cigar and a glass of bourbon and when he walked into a room of strangers he left with a whole new group of friends. RD’s life was a testament to kindness, loyalty, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. He loved life and lived it to its fullest. No one had a kinder heart, no better teammate, no better friend.

RD was born in Braddock, PA, and at the age of 9, the family moved to Monroeville, PA. RD graduated from Gateway HS in 1986. He was a gifted athlete; he led his 1985-86 football team to the WPIAL Co-Championship. On the wrestling mat, he was a 3-year starter, a two-time Section Champion and RD took 2nd place in the PIAA state finals. These achievements earned him two places in the Gateway Hall of Fame.

After high school, RD attended the University of Pittsburgh continuing his athletic career as a member of the Panthers football team; twice named Player of the Week, RD’s dedication and camaraderie left a lasting impression on teammates and coaches alike.

In 2002 RD began his professional career as Vice President of Sales and Strategic Global Development at Smart Solutions Technology and in 2010 he co-founded CAN Technology Solutions and ended his career as President/CEO of CAN Technology.

RD’s greatest pride was his love for Jesus and his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Tami, and his two cherished daughters, Sarah and Lauren, who were the lights of his life. Also survived by his brother, Mark Madison and a host of extended family, friends, teammates and colleagues who will forever treasure his memory. His parents, Robert and Janet preceded him in death.

RD’s smile and countless memories will never, ever fade. He has left a hole in this world that will never be filled.
