On Sunday, February 5, 2023, Raymond H. Siegel passed away. He was ninety-eight. Born to Paul Siegel and Ruth Falk, Ray attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx. At age eighteen, he enlisted in the Army and went to Europe for the end of WWll. Upon his return, he attended the University of Maryland on the GI Bill. He always spoke highly of the opportunity that the GI Bill provided him. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1951. After initial engineering positions with other consulting firms, he opened his first engineering firm in 1954 with an electrical engineer that he had met in college. He started two other firms and stayed active after his retirement well into his 90s. He was a registered professional engineer and a member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers).
Ray loved sports and was an avid golfer and followed closely all University of Maryland sports – particularly men’s football and basketball. He loved playing bridge, reading, and crossword puzzles. For work and pleasure, he traveled to Europe, Africa, Russia, and China.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph and James, two grandchildren--Andrew Siegel and Elise Garrido--and six great-grandchildren. Ray is also survived by his sister, Dena Bober. He was married to Edna Griffith Siegel from 1951 until 1972 when she passed away from cancer. He married Lucille Bradstock in 1982; bringing her three children, five grandchildren and great grandchildren as family that he loved. The marriage ended in divorce.
Ray was always willing to help others and was extremely proud of family, the people that worked for him and of the many friends that he had in and out of the engineering field. He loved life and was a great role model for those that knew him. He will be missed
