Michael Getz, Sr.

Michael Reed Getz Sr. October 15, 1947-January 2, 2021 Michael Getz Sr., known as Mike, of Ellicott City, MD. passed away at home on January 2, 2021 at the age of 73. After graduating from Mount Saint Joseph in Baltimore, he served in the Vietnam War. While serving he earned a Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a Purple Heart to name a few. He was very passionate and proud about his service to America during the war. He then went on to work and retire from Verizon after 30 years. Mike had a passion for Harleys, Mustangs, classic rock and fixing up historic trucks and cars in his spare time. He had a great sense of humor, enjoying a practical joke or two, always striking up a conversation and meeting friends no matter where he went. He enjoyed word finds and playing cards in his later years. Mike is survived by his mother, Marie (Kolb) Getz, his children and their spouses, Rhonda and Cory Walsh, Michael and Meghan Getz and Lisa Almendra, his brother and his spouse, Kenny and Helen Getz and his sister, Eileen Stowe, his grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in his death by his father, Kenneth Getz Sr. He will be buried along side his father at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. A memorial service will follow at a later date.
