On March 6, 2023, Maxwell Edward Balter of Elkridge, Maryland died at the age of 26. Max was born in Columbia, Maryland to Heidi and Sid Balter. He graduated from Howard High School in 2014 and received his bachelor’s degree from Towson University in 2019. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Herman Edward Behling, Maxine Behling, and David Balter. He is survived by his parents and younger sister, Sydney, as well as his grandparents Katharyn and William Sunderman and Kathy Lindeman, his aunts and uncles, Beth and Joel Gallihue, Barbara and Frank Mayer, and Jodie Balter, as well as his cousins Alexandra and Peter Diakonikolis, Jessica Mayer, Ben Linton, and Sam Linton. Max will also be missed by his large extended Elkridge “hood” family.
Max had many hobbies, including his love of movies, books and all things sports. He enjoyed playing baseball, tennis and golf. When he was not playing sports, he was watching all his favorite teams, including his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. Max especially loved family gatherings in his backyard oasis on Gardenview Drive.
Max most recently worked at Essex Elementary School as a special education teacher, and before that he taught at the Villa Maria school in Baltimore County. Max talked daily about the students and staff, and how encouraging they were to his growth as a teacher. Max loved helping his children learn.
