Margaret Finn April 8, 1930 – September 15, 2020 Margaret Mary Finn, nee Linn, died on September 15, 2020. Margaret was a first generation American born on April 8, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York. She was the oldest of nine born to Mary (nee Loughran) and James Linn who both immigrated to New York City. On a sweltering July 23rd, 1955, Margaret married John Finn, whose birthday happened to be that day (He lost out on birthday presents from that day forward but on balance came out ahead). Margaret and John moved from their birthplace of Brooklyn, New York to Norwood, New Jersey in 1960, with three children in tow. Child number four was born there and is Jersey all the way. They lived in Norwood until they retired to St. Augustine, Florida in 1997. Margaret worked at the Norwood Knitting Mill factory while raising her family. She managed to also attain an Associate's Degree in Business Administration at night, which led to a managerial position at Pentax Precision Instrument Corp, in the comptroller’s office. She absolutely thrived in the work world, always engaged in learning all she could, with a work ethic that earned her great respect. She worked there until retiring shortly before she and John moved to Florida. In St. Augustine Margaret enjoyed a wonderful retirement with John until his death in 2001. Though missing him greatly, she continued to enjoy life as a volunteer and engaged community member. Well into her late 80’s, Margaret worked at her local library, and at the local hospital where she delivered communion as a Eucharistic Minister. She also brought communion to the homebound on Sundays. Neighbors could set their clocks by her morning and evening walks. She had wonderful friends and neighbors, and loved her St. Augustine Club with its dances, exercise groups, and its beautiful pool on the intercoastal waterway that her family loved to swim in when they visited. Margaret moved to Catonsville, Maryland, in 2017 to be closer to two of her children as well as her sister Marion. Margaret is survived by three of her four children: Mary Finn (Harry Samuels), Tom Finn (Susan Finn), and Nora Finn (Charles Alexander), and one son-in-law, John Barker (Beverly Drumm), as well as seven grandchildren: Mary Elizabeth (M.E.) Barker, Jack Barker, Jack Finn, Mike Finn, Sean Finn-Samuels, Jacob Finn-Samuels, and Finn Alexander. Margaret’s much-loved daughter Peggy Finn predeceased her but was always with her. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Josephine Curran, Kathleen Linn, Brendan Linn, and Walter Linn (Linda). In addition to her husband and daughter, her siblings James Linn, Francis Linn, Helen Noonan (nee Linn) and Marion Stone (nee Linn) predeceased her. She is also survived by twenty-six nieces and nephews (40 something if you count John’s side) and their families. Margaret was an intelligent, keen and beautiful woman who moved through life unimpressed by status or vanity. She would talk to everyone she met as if they were old friends. However, she could also be reserved, quiet and observant. Margaret was a devoted Catholic as well as a woman of great faith, but always an independent thinker who adjusted with the times. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the “Peggy” Margaret Ann Finn Memorial Nursing Scholarship at Salve Regina University in honor of her late daughter Peggy Finn, a member of Salve Regina’s Class of 1979. www.salve.edu/give-finn.
