Lydia Josephine Principio

July 22, 1926 — February 11, 2025

Baltimore--Lydia Josephine Principio (nee DiPaolo), 98 passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born on July 22, 1926, in Vasto, Italy, Lydia immigrated to the United States at a young age and built a life filled with love, music, and devotion to her family.  She was deeply dedicated to those she loved, always ensuring their happiness and well-being.

She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Louis Principio Jr., and a cherished mother of two children, Louis Principio III and Nicola Lind, who were the greatest joys of her life.  Lydia was blessed with ten grandchildren--Shane, Nicole, Annina, Louis, Chelsea, Miranda, Tyler, Dylan, Kathryn, and Leah-- and four great-grandchildren--Lyla, Ethan, Silas and Aidan--who were a source of pride and delight.  Her family was the center of her world; she was deeply dedicated to those she loved and enjoyed spending time with them above all else.

Music played an important role in Lydia's life.  She had a beautiful voice and was a talented singer who found great joy in sharing music with others.  During World War II, she sang alongside her sisters as a part of the USO, bringing comfort and entertainment to those serving their country.  Her love for music remained with her throughout her life.

Beyond music, Lydia found fulfillment in gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.  She had a nurturing spirit that extended not only to her family but also to the flowers she lovingly tended.

She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Adele Hardy, Irene Harris, Clare Pirie, Mary Cavey, and Julius DiPaolo.  Though she has departed this world, Lydia's legacy of love and devotion will live on through the many lives she touched.

A Mass of Christian service will be held on February 28, 2025, at Ascension Catholic Church, and located at 1527 Potomac Ave., Halethorpe, Maryland 21227.  The service will begin at 10:00am and conclude at 11:00am.

Lydia's devotion to her family will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and devotion will live on through the many lives she touched.

May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
