Louis Albert Carper

After a long illness Louis Albert Carper, 90, son of Alice (Brinker) and Louis G. Carper of Catonsville went to his heavenly reward on Saturday, October 16th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John R. Carper, and a grandson, Jacob L. Noland. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Mary Gallaher Carper and their children Teresa C. Noland (Mike) of Daniels, WV, Christopher H. Carper (Lisa), of Ocean Pines, MD, David L. Carper (Shawn) of Holmes Beach, FL, and Kathleen C. Kramer (The Late Randy) of Arbutus, MD. Louis has 13 surviving grandchildren and 11 great-grand children. Lou was a life long Catholic, and his daily life was guided by his faith. As an 88 year member of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, he participated actively as a cantor and sang in their choir. He served as a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus at the St. Agnes Council #4449. From 1950-1954, Lou served his country in the Navy as part of the Pacific Fleet before returning to civilian life on the east coast. He supported his family by managing the Kimmel Tire Station on Baltimore National Pike then moving across the road to sell cars at Chrysler Plymouth West. He enjoyed his retirement from full time employment but continued to work at Enterprise Rent A Car until he was in his eighties. In his free time, Lou enjoyed traveling with his wife. They went to Europe, the UK, the Caribbean and many destinations around the U.S. At home, he spent a lot of time sorting through the mail from the many charities he supported. He made visits from his children, grand children & great-grandchildren fun by cooking out or buying crabs for the crowd. Family will receive friends at the MacNabb Funeral Home 301 Frederick Road Catonsville, Maryland 21228 on Thursday October 21st 2021 from 2:00pm -4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday at 11:00AM at St. Marks Catholic Church 30 Melvin Lane Catonsville, Maryland 21228. Interment to follow at Loudon Park Cemetery. THE DASH the poem by Linda Ellis I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning… to the end. He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own, the cars… the house… the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard; are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left that still can be rearranged. To be less quick to anger and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before. If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile… remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash, would you be proud of the things they say about how you lived your dash?
