Leon Joseph Maka

Leon Joseph Maka of Baltimore, MD passed away November 10, 2022 at the age of 96.

He was a United States Navy veteran and served in WWII, Vietnam, and Korea

Back on the domestic front, Leon passed his days by crabbing with his siblings, playing online poker, and tinkering with old toys. Leon was an avid collector; at the time of his death he amassed an impressive collection of matchbox cars and comic books. He passed on his love of miniatures to his grandchildren who would spend hours playing with the dollhouses and trucks "Pop Pop" constructed.

Leon and his siblings owned property on the Eastern Shore and they hosted several family members in the Spring and Summer months. "Uncle Leon", as he was affectionately known, made sure that there was never a shortage of activities at the shore, from Marty's Playland to Jolly Roger Amusement Park. Most recently, he enjoyed spending time with his youngest nephew, Jackson.

Even in his later years, Leon was as fiery as the young teen who enlisted in the military back in the 1940s. Upon his arrival to Lorien Elkridge in 2019, he made a name for himself among the nursing staff.

Leon was predeceased by his parents Martin and Theresa, siblings Praxeda, Marcella, Marion, Joseph, Bernard, and Jerome, and animal companions PJ, Spotty, Luckie, and Lucki. He is survived by his children James and Kim (spouse Richard), grandchildren Chelsea and Faith, niece Amanda (spouse Mark), and nephew Jackson.

Family will celebrate and honor Leon's life with a graveside service Thursday December 22, 2022, 10:00am at Holy Rosary Cemetery 7305 German Hill Road, Dundalk, Maryland 21222.
