Otis James Bednego, Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. He was born August 13, 1946, in Baltimore to Otis James Bednego, Sr. and Esther Queen Bednego. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and served in Special Forces until honorably discharged from active duty in 1969. He worked at the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services in Baltimore as a Correctional Maintenance Manager from 1997 until his retirement in 2015. After his retirement, Jim continued working at Clark’s Hardware in Ellicott City in the warehouse, where he enjoyed helping customers and being with his coworkers. Jim is survived by his wife, Christine Bednego; his daughter, Jennifer Kroop (husband Steven); his son, Timothy Bednego (wife Amanda); his grandchildren, Samantha Kroop, Olivia Kroop, Gwendolyn Bednego, and Rebecca Bednego, as well as numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private service will be held at a later date.
