James M. Underwood

James (Jim) M. Underwood (Ret. U.S. Army Sergeant First Class), 90, of Severna Park, MD passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2020. He was born November 27, 1929 in Memphis, TN. Jim served in Japan and Germany and retired from Ft. Bliss, TX in 1967, then retired from RCA and WMATA in 1995. He served as VP and Treasurer of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church Senior Travel Club and was a valuable member of the volunteer church’s maintenance crew. He was a past member of the Freemasons Palestine Lodge #189 in Catonsville, MD. Jim enjoyed working with stained glass and gardening, and he and his wife enjoyed years of extensive traveling here and abroad. Jim will be remembered for his kindness and jovial way and always bringing a smile to your face. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maxine (nee Giarth) Underwood; his loving daughters, Debra (Deb) Yoder and Julia Souders, and son-in-law Anthony (Tony) Souders; his grandchildren Kristina Pevear (Chris), and Eric and Spencer Souders; and his great grandchildren Cayden Souders and Miranda, Gavin, and Christian Pevear. Services will be held with full military honors to take place in Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) in his name.
