Jacque passed away at home, surrounded by members of her family on April 6, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born in Washington D.C. on March 22, 1928, the daughter of Lottie (Brown) and Carl Henderson.
Jacque was always very active and enjoyed life. In her younger years she loved waterskiing, boating, carpentry work and had earned her private pilot’s license. Traveling and reading were her special interests.
She taught in adult education for Prince Georges County for fifteen years. The courses were in clothing construction from basic to tailoring and couture.
For more than sixty years Jacque did dressmaking for friends and family including alterations, wedding groups and home decorating. She had created over thirty quilts, and at age 83-84 made two for a raffle to benefit what is now Compass Regional Hospice. She very much enjoyed living on Kent Island, in Stevensville, MD, for the last fifty years, and was knowledgeable about the history and people of the area.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son Carl, who died in 2010, and her brother Gene. Jacque is survived by her husband Charles (Ned), daughter Nancy, son Randy, six grandchildren, and six great-granddaughters. Ned and Jacque were married for nearly seventy-seven years, having met in an aviation class at McKinley Technical High School in the District.
There will be a celebration of life held for the family in June.
Any desired donations may be made via a check to the Queen Anne’s County Library, with “Kent Island Branch” written in the memo line.
