Gerald Robert McNeiland (aka Jerry, Jer-Bear, Jerry-Mac, and FIL) of Reisterstown, Maryland completed his journey Home on August 20, 2022, surrounded by his family. Jerry began his Journey on July 13, 1939, in Alamosa, CO. A few years later, his family moved to Aztec, NM, where he spent his childhood before college took him to Morgantown, WV. Life then took him to Richmond, VA, Welch, WV & finally Reisterstown, where he spent 30 years working for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore. Upon retirement, he spent the next several years working part time at Goucher College. Jerry was a devoted husband to Barbara for over 50 years. They loved traveling as often as possible with both friends and family. Their favorite place to visit was Jerry’s home state of New Mexico, where he loved sharing stories of people, places and things. He was a “soooa-doopah” and absolute best father to his 5 children: Donny McNeiland (deceased), Alan McNeiland (deceased), Rose (McNeiland) Legg (Gary), Amy (McNeiland) Armacost (Scott), and Emily (McNeiland) Kenlaw (Jason). He was super proud of his grandsons, Joshua Cantrell (Rebecca) and Adam Cantrell (Sabrina) and doted on his great-grandchildren, Adelyn & Jamison Cantrell. Jerry loved astronomy, geology, and all things science. He loved Jeopardy and maintaining his championship status among all of his friends and family. He was like a walking encyclopedia who never hesitated to share his knowledge. As a lifelong member of Reisterstown United Methodist Church, he taught Bible study, Sunday School, and discipleship to over three decades of eager students. He loved socializing with the congregation, going on VIM trips, and hanging out with the youth group at Camp Hope. A Celebration of Life ceremony will take place Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at Reisterstown United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gilchrist Hospice Care (11311 McCormick Rd., Ste. 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031 or online at GilchristCares.org). Dad, we love YOU very, very much…. You Betcha!
