EJ Strawser…born Elva Jean Barr on September 3, 1927, was God’s gift to her family, friends, and all who knew her. She was born to Nelson and Mary Barr, in Quarryville, PA. A godly family, they loved to till the earth, sing together and serve the Lord. She had a brother, Richard, and sister, Miriam Delong.
After graduating from Houghton College in 1948, EJ married Ray Strawser who became a United Methodist pastor and then an Army Chaplain. They lived in Germany and traveled the world as a team: Ray the pastor, EJ the pianist, organist, and choir director among other roles. EJ was known for her beautiful voice, singing solos and duets in countless churches and army chapels. She also worked as a librarian in high schools, colleges and army libraries in many locations.
EJ was a model of love, and it showed in the way she lived her life of service and sacrifice. Her beautiful soul shone through her voice, melodious laugh, big smile and loving heart.
