Pocomoke City

Darrell Lee Richardson, 65, of Pocomoke City, MD passed away peacefully on February, 9th 2025. Darrell was born on June 1st, 1959 on Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California to Howard Richardson Sr. and Jacqueline Richardson.

He was proceeded in death by his infant sister Diana Sue Richardson, two unborn children, his wife Jacqueline E. Perley(m) of 19 years, and his youngest son Ryan J. Richardson. He is survived by his son Blake A. L. Richardson, his daughter Kellie M. Good, his daughter Brenda L. Arnold, five grandchildren, his oldest brother Howard Richardson Jr., his oldest sister Vickie Atkinson, his youngest brother David Richardson, and his youngest sister Janet Lemming and several nieces and nephews.

Darrell served 20 years in the United States Navy from 1978-1999. During his long and faithful service he was assigned to duty on the U.S.S. Joseph Hewes (FF-1078), the U.S.S. New Jersey (BB-62), and the U.S.S. Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) as well as several land duty assignments. He deployed countless times and visited a large array of countries while out at sea. He greatly prided himself in his dedication to his country, having come from a military family himself. There wasn’t a task he didn’t complete, or a problem he couldn’t find a solution to. Some of his fondest memories of his life were spent out at sea aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey.

He was a die-hard Harry Chapin and Billy Joel fan, and a poet at heart. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he was employed by Lockheed Martin on Wallop’s Island in Virginia, assigned to working on the AEGIS defense system contracted by the U.S. Navy.

He was a hard worker and a big lover of peach ice cream. He loved roller skating and could skate circles around most people. He spent a lot of his free time fixing things or learning how to. He could talk your ear off and found himself to be easily adaptable to whatever situation he was in. He was a resilient man and didn’t go out without a good fight.

His cremains will be lovingly cared for by the Cremation Society of Maryland in Catonsville, MD and he will be laid to rest at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky at a later date with full military honors while surrounded by his family. For more information on the burial service, you can contact the staff at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at (859)885-5727.
