Carl Louis Hoffman, Jr., entered this world on July 1, 1929, and entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2023. He and his surviving wife, Dorothy (nee Mueller), celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on January 26th. Carl is also survived by his daughter, Laurie, and her husband, Gregg Busey; his son, Michael, and his girlfriend, Andrea Baker; his grandsons, Kevin, Adam, and Eric Busey; his sister, Marilyn Gay; and his cousin, Harry Ryan, and his wife, Elaine. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Carl was predeceased by his parents, Carl and L. Eleanora Hoffman; his sister, Charlotte Meyers; his sisters’ husbands, Frank Gay and John Meyers; and his in-laws by marriage, Joseph Mueller, Robert Mueller, and Audrey Green.
Carl graduated from City College, and was a member of the Sea Scouts and the Naval Reserve with his close long-time friend Allen Meyer. Carl and Dorothy lived in Yale Heights in the early years of their marriage and moved to Linthicum in 1963. Carl worked for almost 40 years for C&P Telephone Company (later Verizon), where he formed many lasting friendships. In 1999, Carl and Dorothy became residents of Charlestown Retirement Community, where Carl was involved in golf groups, the computer club, the Protestant congregation, the movie projection group, and campus classes. He was a lifelong music buff, a student of history, and an avid reader.
The family would like to thank the staff and Carl’s friends on the Assisted Living unit at Charlestown for making his last two years so enjoyable. Additional thanks go to Dr. Ming Yi at Charlestown and the medical staff at St. Agnes Hospital for their care and concern.
A memorial service for Carl will be held on Monday, April 3rd, at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Angels chapel on the Charlestown campus. Donations may be made to the Charlestown Benevolent Care Fund at ccicharlestown.org.
