Ann Snyder Silverman

October 22, 1934 — October 23, 2023

Ann Snyder Silverman, a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many, was born in Woodbury, New Jersey in 1934. She was the fifth child of Charles Arthur and Flora Euphemia (Davies) Snyder, and from her early years, it was evident that she was destined for greatness.

Ann's journey through life was filled with achievements and meaningful connections. She attended Woodbury High School, where she not only excelled in her studies but also demonstrated her prowess in all girls' sports. Her passion for learning led her to Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she majored in German. This choice would ultimately shape her life in unimaginable ways.

In 1956, Ann embarked on a life-changing adventure to Germany, courtesy of a Fulbright Scholarship. Little did she know that this journey would introduce her to the love of her life, Henry Silverman, during the ship passage to Germany. The stars had aligned, and in 1957, Ann and Henry were united in marriage in the enchanting city of Munich, Germany.

Upon returning to the United States, Ann continued her pursuit of knowledge and earned a Masters Degree in German from Stanford University. Her academic achievements were not limited to this, as she later obtained a Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan.

Ann and Henry chose East Lansing, Michigan as their home, where they lovingly raised their two children, Edwin and Emily. Ann's dedication to her family was unwavering, and her influence on their lives was immeasurable. Her children remember her as a loving and supportive mother, always keeping them on their toes with her wisdom and guidance.

Ann's career path was equally impressive. Her commitment to education and literature led her to serve as a clerk and librarian at Michigan State University for many years. Her love for books and knowledge was evident to all who crossed her path.

But Ann was more than just her accomplishments; she was a warm and compassionate soul with an unwavering commitment to the causes she held dear. She was a wonderful cook, using her culinary skills to bring joy to those around her. Ann's passion for social justice and her involvement in Michigan politics showcased her dedication to making the world a better place. She was a champion of the underdog and a nature lover, finding solace and beauty in the natural world.

Ann's circle of friends and extended family knew her as a wise confidant and a source of unwavering support. Her kindness and generosity made her a beloved presence in their lives.

As we say our farewells, we can't help but be filled with a profound sense of loss. Ann's passing leaves a void in the lives of her children, extended family, and friends that will be felt for years to come. May her memory be a guiding light, a reminder of the love and wisdom she shared with us all.

Let us remember Ann Snyder Silverman for the remarkable woman she was, for her indomitable spirit, and for the love she gave to the world. May she rest in peace at Serenity Ridge, her final resting place, surrounded by the tranquility she cherished throughout her life.
