On May 4, 2021, Anita W. Happel (nee Walkling) died peacefully at Charlestown Retirement Community. Anita was the daughter of the late John Earl Walkling and late Pearl Elizabeth Walkling. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph G. Happel, Jr. Anita was a well-known and respected Catonsville real estate broker. She was one of several women who succeeded in a male-dominated profession. After several years as a Realtor, in 1972, Anita started her own real estate brokerage firm under her own name of “A. W. Happel, Inc.”. In 1973, her son, Joseph G. Happel, III joined the company. Over 40+ years, Anita Happel assisted many Buyers and Sellers throughout Baltimore City, Baltimore, Howard, Anne Arundel, and Harford counties. Over this period of time, the company expanded to two offices: a local office in Arbutus and an office in Carroll County. In retirement Anita was an avid gardener and birdwatcher. Anita was a devout Catholic and loved her family immensely. Anita is survived by her children: Joseph G. Happel, III (Rita A. Happel), Dr. Mary H. Palmer (Dr. Walter E. Palmer), John M. Happel Sr. (Wendy B. Happel), Susan M. Happel, six grandchildren, eleven great grand-children, and beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her faithful dog, Daisy. A private interment and a celebration of her Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anita’s name to the Benevolent Fund at Charlestown Retirement Community (Philanthropy Office), 719 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, Maryland 21228 or to a charity of your choice.
